St Bartholomew’s Hospital sits opposite Smithfield Market in the heart of the City of London. Public transport links are superb, with Farringdon, St Paul’s and Barbican stations eight, five and four minutes walk away respectively, and with extensive parking directly opposite.
For setup and break down, vehicular access to the site can be arranged to take equipment directly to the door of the North Wing, with lifts to all floors.
Banqueting and private events
The Great Hall is a dramatic and memorable venue for banquets, receptions and celebrations and has hosted many distinguished guests. It will host many more exciting events in the build up to Barts 900th anniversary.
The Great Hall, Hogarth Stair and supporting spaces of the fabulous North Wing represent centuries of heritage at the very heart of a world class centre for medical care and research. They offer a unique and memorable backdrop for conferences, AGMs, product launches and special events that call for more than a regular conference venue.
Smaller rooms are also available to suit seminars and meetings on flexible hire terms.
We’re honoured to host symposia and seminars for distinguished hospital, NHS, medical and academia clients. We can accommodate regular bookings for every size of group.
Our restoration project is planned to begin in 2023, when the Great Hall will be restored to its prime, with adjacent spaces in the North Wing brought into play to make an even more remarkable guest experience.

Guests invited to celebrate a wedding in the Great Hall make their entrance via the dramatic Hogarth Stair – lavishly decorated spaces largely unchanged since they were first created to impress the eighteenth century London elite.
Our hospitality team will be delighted to consult on plans for catering, service, music, entertainment and anything you need to make your day a success.
We can accommodate up to 190 guests set for a dinner with a dance floor, and up to 200 theatre style or for a drinks reception.
With the emphasis on quality of service, the experienced, friendly and professional team at the Great Hall can look after everything you need.
We offer menu consultancy and catering in house, or we’ll be happy to discuss working with your independent caterers.
AV and facilities
We can arrange and manage everything for your event from musicians and photography to AV and broadband to transport and accommodation.
Smaller rooms – seminars and meetings
The North Wing also offers a choice of smaller rooms for meetings and seminars.
Our meeting rooms seat up to 14 people, from the Henry VIII Room (originally known as the Compting House and probably used, as the name implies, for the financial management of the hospital), to the relaxed setting of the James Gibbs Flat, with its cosy sitting room and formal dining room.
Like the Treasurer’s Room shown here, all our meeting rooms offer natural light, high ceilings and authentic Georgian decoration.
