Heritage & Health Research Associate

St Bartholomew’s Heritage, London.
0.5 FTE Fixed Term contract to April 25

Barts Heritage is looking to appoint a Heritage and Health Interpretation Research Associate to support the team during the delivery phase of a National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) funded project on heritage, health and wellbeing. Working closely with the Barts Heritage Team, you will bring additional capacity to project delivery through research work in close collaboration with Barts Health Museums and Archives and other collections sources. Your research will support sourcing material for the site wide interpretation scheme and wider public engagement activities.

The successful applicant will have the following:

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) with experience of working in an archive, heritage, museum or cultural setting.
  • Knowledge of archive and museum collections research processes and database use.
  • Understanding or experience of developing and delivering research work which feeds into interpretative schemes.
  • Track record of working on research projects delivering interpretative outputs through signage and installations, events and participatory activity and digital content.

Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding and experience of interpretative research processes.
  • Experience of research with archive and museum collections and databases.
  • Adept at recognising and identifying appealing and relevant stories for audiences throughout the research process helping direct areas of focus for research.
  • Specific knowledge and interest in 18th century history and/or architecture would be desirable.
  • Interest in community histories and representation of diverse narratives in museums and galleries.
  • Ability to manage and foster collaborative relationships between a diverse range of project partners and audiences.
  • Confident, persuasive, collaborative and diplomatic in your approach.
  • A flexible, innovative and creative approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to take responsibility when required.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, including presentations.
  • Competent use of MS Office, including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Good logical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management and an ability to multi- task effectively.
  • Ability to prioritise and to show initiative.

This is a 0.5 FTE fixed fee post offering £27,000 per annum pro rata until April 25.

Heritage & Health Engagement Manager

Fixed Term contract to August 2026

Barts Heritage is looking to appoint a Heritage and Health Engagement Manager to support the team during the delivery phase of a National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) funded project on heritage, health and wellbeing. You will work closely with the CEO, Barts Health Museums and Archives staff, Barts NHS Trust staff and project team to take forward the delivery of the Sharing Historic Barts project through to the project end in August 2026. An important part of the role is the management of the Heritage and Health Engagement Officer, Research Associate and a number of volunteers.

The successful applicant will have the following:

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) with substantial experience of working in an historic environment, museum or cultural setting.
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Knowledge of audience development, community engagement and participatory practice.
  • Understanding or experience of developing and delivering cultural programmes in an historic setting.
  • Experience of developing heritage and wellbeing programmes in partnership with health professionals would be desirable.
  • Track record of working on projects delivering interpretative outputs through a participatory methodology.
  • Experience of successful delivery of multi-partner projects.
  • Knowledge of and experience of project management and budgetary control.
  • Experience and understanding of monitoring and evaluation.
