St Bartholomew’s Heritage [referred to on this site as Barts Heritage] is the new charity formed by Barts Health NHS Trust to renovate and develop the Grade I listed Great Hall, King Henry VIII Gate and other heritage assets to their former glory. These buildings, along with the Hogarth Stair and his massive paintings, and the portrait and archive collections, are at the heart of the hospital, representing 900 years of medical and architectural history.
Our aim is to build on the strength of these hospital buildings’ unique historical attributes, by promoting the location as a wonderful place for performance, conferences and celebrations. We want to increase accessibility so that the treasures can be enjoyed by a wider number of people, so helping to fund renovations and sustain the future of the buildings as we approach the 900th anniversary of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 2023.
We have been delighted with the support of all our neighbours and friends since we started our new organisation at the end of 2017. We hope this website will help share with you our progress and aspirations.
